Facts About Hydropower
How is it made?- The most common type of hydroelectric power plant uses a dam on a river to store water in a reservoir. Water released from the reservoir flows through a turbine, spinning it, which in turn activates a generator to produce electricity. In the U.S., hydropower is produced for an average of 85 cents per kilowatt hour.

Benefits-
Hydropower is renewable. It does not cause pollution. It is reliable, where there is water there is energy. It is safe since no fuel is included. |
Drawbacks-
Can harm fish habitats. Is expensive to build. Droughts can cause energy shortages. Not many Hydropower plants are functioning right now (only about 30 major plants). |
